“The worst place we've stayed in in 40 years!”

  , Calabasas
Hi...I'm glad you sent this survey it came just as I was going to write to you. I really hope someone reads it! If you don't, then you don't care what people have to say about Howard Johnson!!When we first arrived we were greeted cordially by a little old woman who was very, very nice. She gave us our key to room #212. When we arrived in the room there was an over whelming stench of mold and/or mildew. The carpets were filthy, not just a little dirty but filty! I called the front desk and asked for another room. I was told that they were totally booked. When we went out to dinner we left the window open hoping this would help eleviate the odor. We returned around 11:00 PM and realized leaving the open window had been useless in eleviating the problem. We had no other choice but to spend another night in this room. The next morning I stopped by the office to ask if anything could be done about this! I walked to the front desk and stood there. The desk clerk, a heavy set man in his 50's or early 60's with a salt & pepper crew cut was playing on the computer and totally ignored me. I finally said "excuse me"! He looked up as if I was bothreing him, and replied "how can I help you". I explained the difficulty we had staying in that room and gave him a list of problems. These included the stench, the filthy carpeting, the hair dryer and the coffee pot not working, and the sink draining very slowly. When we came back to the room late that evening, it was apparent that someone had been there and sprayed something (that did nothing to help the smell). They did fix the hair dryer and the coffee pot.I guess my biggest complaint, other than the stench or mold and mildew, is that this room was so far from being up to your standards. Your corporation should be ashamed! I also suggest that you put your "rat traps" in a location not so visable to your customers as they walk to the elevator! We regret having such a negative response to your survey, but I guess you do want your patrons to be honest with their feedback. Please bring your rooms up to acceptable standards that are required by the Health Dept.Sincerely,Randy & Judy Hebert818-225-5375
