“Terrible Room”

  , Henderson
My family recently had a trip to Stanton, CA for my sons travel hockey team. Another parent booked a room at the Howard Johnson, located at 11632 Beach BLVD. We also booked there so the kids could hang out. Upon arrival the first thing I noticed was the delapatated motorhome parked in the back of the lot. The motorhome had an electric cord stretched from somewhere on the side of the Hotel (about 100 feet). There were also several other cars parked next to the motorhome which I thought were empty. As I continued to unload our car I noticed there was someone laid back in the drivers seat of a Tahoe. Not a big deal right? Well, I kept checking on this vehicle because it was suspicious and the guy was still sitting there hours later. I had trouble sleeping because I was worried he was casing the vehicles in the parking lot. I know he stayed there until about 3:30am. The only explanation is the vehicles in the back lot were allowed to stay there and sleep in their vehicles? The next problem was immediately when we walked into the room my wife and I noticed a very loud buzzing that was actually shaking the room. I tracked it down to the tank on the toilet. I flushed the toilet and the noise went away until the bowl filled up again then the noise began to grow, until unbearable, then I would flush again. The bathtub was not fit to shower in. There was about a quarter inch of black dirt or dust accumulated around the top of the tiles. The bottom of the shower was dirty and stained. The water continued to run in the shower and the shower head was pulled away from the tile. The beds were hard and uncomfortable. The pillows were like a bags of rags. We had two queen size beds and four pillows. All pillow cases were a different shade of yellow. We actually rolled up some of our clothes and used them as pillows. The ultimate insult that let you know you were in the ghetto was the fact there was tagging on the door facing inside the room, which said, "DBONE". One might ask why we did not just move rooms. Well, there was a sign clearly hung in the office window that stated, "SOLD OUT, NO ROOMS AVAILABLE". Why did we not just go to another hotel? We have stayed down there several times at other hotels. We checked the ones we were familiar with and they were sold out as well. So we were STUCK!If that was the last place in town to stay I would not go. We felt unsafe and dirty in this hotel. We have stayed in other Ho Jo's over the years and never had this problem
