“A few things to improve”

Pillows were too hard, woke up with a headache and pain in my neck. Walls looked cheap, you should put some texture on them. No smoking room wreaked of smoke. The heater was not turned on and ready for me so the room was very cold and took awhile to get warm. It wouldn't hurt to salt by the other exterior doorways and in the parking lot. LOTS of ICE in the parking lot. Internet would not connect in the breakfast area. Lights and clock/alarm not plugged in upon arrival and the power outlet was somewhat out of the wall. The inside of the fridge was a bit dirty and hard to open. The lights and clock/alarm by the beds were not plugged in. I appreciate the basic amenities more expensive hotels offer but for a little more money, I could have gotten them done right from Holiday Inn or similar. If I wasn't in town on business and very busy I would have checked out that first night and went to another hotel after having to deal with the odor upon arrival. I was too tired to request another room or even mention it.Since the rooms are small and cheap, it would definitely liven it up if you put some thick texture on the walls to cover spackled holes etc, and think about a thick molding trim professionally done with no gaps. Also provide a couple variety of pillows. Make sure everything is plugged in and ready to use in the room. Also, the old white style ceramic bath rubs make it feel old and cheap.And I was told this hotel was heavily updated... this hotel is the bare minimum of acceptable to me. Sorry to be so harsh... a few improvements would make this Howard Johnson location a serious competitor. Thanks.
