“This Hotel is a Joke!”

When I called for the free airport shuttle, the hotel phone system kept kicking me to a recording: "Leave a Message". After 25 minutes waiting at the airport curb -- in a wheelchair with the airport attendant having to wait with me -- I finally got through to a reservation agent who transferred me to the front desk. I was told that their phone problems are recurring, and that if a hotel employee doesn't hang up their phone when done with the call, sometimes the system fails. Then I was told the shuttle would arrive in 15 minutes -- and had to call two more times to try to find out where it was -- 45 minutes later. This is not the shuttle driver's shortcoming, but the result of heavy traffic. Why not just tell me the truth about how long the wait will be? The hotel may be "near" the airport, but since there is only one shuttle, plan on waiting a LONG time for a ride. The carpeting in the hotel hallways is the FILTHIEST I have even encountered in the U.S. -- dirty and stained everywhere. Howard Johnson's should be ashamed. Since most of the guests appear to be Latin Americans who come to shop at the local malls, perhaps Howard Johnson's thinks they don't deserve decent standards. Then, when I checked my credit card charge online, there was an extra $25 added on. When I tried to call the hotel's accounting office, the recording said "press 4 for accounting" but when I did that, the system said that I pressed a non-existent button. Back to the "operator"! The accounting person said they always charge more than is due, and that the $25 will eventually be removed from my bill. To their credit, the hotel staff was polite and helpful, but even one of the employees told me they are embarrassed by the condition of the hallways. Unless you're looking for a reason to be frustrated, don't bother with this hotel.
