“what happened?”

We stayed at this hotel 5 years ago and it was good. This time it had fallen into uncleanliness of large proportion. We called for the shuttle at 10:45 and were told it was on its way. We called back at 11:05 and were told it had already returned. It cost us $27.10 to take a taxi to the hotel. It took 20 minutes for the clerk to check us in. We were exhausted after a long day of travel. The 3 inch boarder of rug around our room looked as if it had not been vacummed for months. We were afraid to step on it barefoot. When we talked to the night manager about our issue with the shuttle, he just shrugged his shoulders and asked the clerk if we had called. When we checked out in the morning we cancelled our return stay in February. We have always enjoyed our stays at Howard Johnson, but we now question the service and cleanliness of future stays. We walked 5 floors looking for a working coke machine or water dispenser.
