“Dirty Underwear”

I booked this hotel on line, figuring HJ was a reputable chain. How wrong I was. I am not sure if it was an oversight, or it just wasn't offered, but somehow, I was booked into a "smoking" room. The office manager told me I could check out the room, and could change it if it was unsatifactory. I opened the door, to the most disgusting smell of smoke I had ever experienced in a hotel. There were burn holes in the bed comforter, and it looked as if someone had tried to beat up the door. Obviously, this room was not going to work. The office manager proceeded to tell me only suites were still available for non-smoking, and I reluctantly hesitated. The new room looked as if it hadn't been dusted for some time, and there was some kind of liquid that had been spilled in the TV, and left to dry. At least the bathroom was clean, and it didn't reak of cigarettes. We left for the afternoon, and upon returning, turned on the lights in the room. My wife noticed a smell coming from the light, and discovered whoever was in that room prviously left thei dirty chonies on the light. DISCUSTING! I called the front desk and told her we wanted another room. She understood, and I went down to get the new keys to the room next door. She explained to me that that room had not been cleaned that day. Really? You rented a room that was not even cleaned. It's not as if we were renting it by the hour. I didn't pitch a fit like I wanted to, but took the new room. It was at least clean. I was also told the Hotel Manager would be getting in touch with me, which NEVER happened. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone, and am seriously considering calling authorities to have this place investigated. How can you ask someone to pay for this shabby shack.
