“One great-other not so great”

I stayed at the Howard Johnson on Dale Mabry in Tampa, Fl and my stay was great; however, I stayed a second night at the Howard Johnson on Hwy 98 in Lakeland, Fl which was filled with problems. For that night, I desired a first floor room with smoking but they did not have it. Because it was late I didn't want to leave and find another hotel. Because I had to go to the second floor; lugging all of my luggage and laptop to the second floor I decided that I would never do a 'second floor' anywhere anymore. When I got to the room the air conditioning didn't work and it was very hot in the room. I thought it had come on but it was from the room next door. Then the tv didn't work. I called the office and they sent someone to switch out my room with another room. I get to the second night and was able to spend the night; however, the next morning the coffee maker didn't not work and I called the front desk again. This inconvenience of another 30 minutes or so combined with being inconvenienced the night before I didn't get to bed till about 1am. The research that I had wanted to do was put off until the next morning. As I was behind in my work on the internet; not having a coffee pot and waiting for another coffee pot and getting my shower and getting dressed I went past 11pm. I received a knock on the door from the maid wanting to clean the room and I told her I needed more time. She was confused because of the 11am checkout. Then, I got a call from the front desk to see why I wasn't checked out and then I got a bit upset and related the issues that I had gone through. The front desk guy was cordial and said not to worry about it. I checked out close to noon and I personally went by the front desk to let him know my concerns and he mentioned that he had placed me for a 1pm checkout which was comforting to know. Although my stay was basically uneventful in Tampa with the exception of a tub faucet dripping all night I enjoyed that stay but the Lakeland, Fl stay left me with a sickening feeling that maybe I didn't want to stay at a Howard Johnson again. I had my doubts as to a future stay with Howard Johnson. Other than these inconveniences I liked the price and felt like the stay in Tampa was impressive because the sheets, bedding and pillows were clean and crisp. I did notice in my second room there was a stain on the bedspread even though the bed, sheets and pillows were well placed and clean...the stain bothered me.
