“Might have been a better hotel in the dark”

  , Fargo
After driving twelve hours and arriving very late at night, we discovered that our GPS did not bring us directly to the hotel. There were no signs of the hotel anywhere, and when we called, the man at the front desk simply told us we "had gone too far." Turns out the hotel wasn't even on that road to begin with and was on a side street. Having this clarified by the employee could have helped us arrive.I had to provide my card upon check in which is a typical hotel policy. However, I was not advised that my card would be charged the full amount immediately. This was not problematic for me but might be for other people choosing to pay cash.We were told to park around back since that door would be closest to our room. However, the back door did not have a door knob. It had been broken off. My friend ran around the entire hotel and in through the front door again to let us in.The hallways were like a prison. When we got to our room, our lights would not turn on. We tried all of the lamps and light switches in the room and only one bedside light worked. This light was the only one that worked while we were there, and it was very difficult to get to turn on. We had to switch it on and off multiple times to get it to work. The door to our room did not shut fully, either. There was a gap at the bottom where you could see into the hallway. Our first night there, I fell asleep to the symphony of the people below us having sex.Our second night, our key did not work. A maid was walking by at that time and let us in immediately, though I found it extremely unsafe that she did not ask for a form of ID or anything. My friend ran to the front desk to ask for two more towels since housekeeping had not visited our room while we were away for the day. After waiting ten minutes, he was given a small hand towel and a regular towel and told "that's all we have clean right now."The final straw was when we discovered blood on the sheets.I chose this hotel because it was closest to our destination. Never again. I would rather drive the extra hour than feel this unsafe again.
