“You get what you pay for”

I did not have very high expectations for this hotel before arriving but I was disappointed with my room. It was simple and a standard size, which was fine. However, the decor was extremely dated and the main lamp in the room did not work. Worst of all were the numerous stains on the carpet. The mattress was uncomfortable; we could feel the bedsprings beneath us and one of them was even protruding from the side. The positive aspects of this stay include the breakfast and the good service we received in the breakfast room. The coffee was surprisingly good and there was a good selection of pastries and cereal. I saw the pool area which looked nice. My friend had a chance to use it and thought the facilities were good. I chose this hotel solely because it was recommended to me. The location was not far from the friend I was visiting and the event I was attending, situated just off the highway. I found it convenient for this reason but would not stay there again. Staying at this Howard Johnson is more like staying at a hostel than a hotel.
