“Decent hotel - lousy price”

  , Campbell
The hotel itself is kept up well....the rooms are larger than an average motel room. The rooms were clean and had a decent size mini fridge, mini microwave, the usual toiletries, etc.. The parking lot was well lit and safe. The only concerns we had was with the pricing that was not in line with the quality level of the hotel. We were in Salinas for the California Rodeo and what would normally have gone for under $100 night was inflated to just under $300 per night. I see where the hotel has to make its money, however, at three times the usual high value (most nights the charge for a room in Salinas would be well under $100) but when you triple that you're just trying to gouge people. One drawback was that the electronic key for one of our rooms had quit working and so we phoned down to the front desk late at night. We tried 3x and each time let the phone ring for about 5 mins each....thank goodness there was no real emergency. We eventually went down and rang the nightbell many many many times before it was eventually answered. The person on duty was quick to resolve the key issue but not until he had admonished us with, "you don't have to ring the bell so much." We DID have to ring the bell many times because he never answered the phone or came to the window as we tried many times.
