“Convenient Off-Season Business Stay”

  , Cutchogue
My husband and I stayed at the Howard Johnson Inn Albany for one night. We were in Albany for business and the location of the hotel was very convenient. Close to I-87 and in good proximity to many restaurants; near enough to downtown. Since this was off-season, the hotel was nearly empty. Check-in was quick and friendly, and the grounds were quiet at night. I suspect this hotel might be rather noisy during the summer, as there is a pool in the courtyard and parking is right outside about half the rooms. If you stay during the warmer months, ask for a room on the courtyard, but not right next to the pool (perhaps on the 2nd floor). The one computer in the lobby served as the "business center." It was convenient for my husband and me to check out email, but there might be a wait during the tourist season. Parking was ample, and first-floor rooms are handicap accessible (although bathrooms might be a bit tight for the wheelchair-bound; no handrail at the toilet, but there was one in the shower). Water in the shower took a bit of time to warm up, but when it finally did, it remained nice and hot for the second shower. Water pressure was excellent. Some have complained of dated decor, but I think there have been recent improvements. Our room was clean and comfortable, TV channel selection was satisfactory, and the heat worked well. My only complaint, really, is that the lighting was rather dim. The morning's buffet breakfast (included) was quite good. Selection was varied and food ample, and the breakfast room was clean (again, I don't know what that room would look like during the high season). Price for the night was okay. I always think I pay too much, but I would definitely stay at this Holiday Inn again if I had business in the area during the off-season. I probably would not stay there during the summer.
