“Friendly service but absolutely FILTHY accomodations!”

  , Chatham
I booked HOJO knowing that in Canada the name carries with it a high standard of service and cleanliness. The gentleman at the front desk at check-in was very courteous, efficient and friendly which was nice after the 3 hour drive.Everything changed when we opened the door to our king bed suite and if it hadn't been 11pm we would have turned around and left. There was a damp, musty odour to the room upon entering. When i went to open the bathroom window to let air in I noticed the entire base of the window was full of mould and a dead yellow jacket wasp that had been there probably since last fall. I wanted to shower so i grabbed the soap, shampoo and conditioner. All of the bottles had been refilled, and were so old that all of the writing on them had faded to the point you couldn't tell what was in them. Refilling bathroom supplies....really? That's disgusting so I did without and showered just with water. Next problem....finding a towel that didn't contain stains. The first towel I grabbed had a huge black skidmark on it like someone had used it to wipe down a tire(I hope that's what it was!). The next two had large visible yellowing dead centre in the towel. Fortunately two of the face clothes were 'clean' enough to dry ourselves with. Climbing into bed we noticed another LARGE STAIN at the midpoint, accompanied by 3 large black hairs....these sheets had not been replaced and if they had been, the person changing them is losing hair at an alarming rate. Again, it was 11pm and we were leaving by 7am so it was literally a place to plop our heads. I will NEVER return to this dump again....it's an embarrassment to the Howard Johnson name and has severely tarnished my view on the chain. And no, we didn't even attempt to try the continental breakfast the next morning.....
