“Decent Stay...”

So, to be honest, I stay at hotels a few times a year being a parent of sports kids. I believe that this hotel is on the right track, but still has a ways to go. We were a little confused about the hotel because some of the pictures were still a Super 8, so finding the hotel was interesting... Google maps had a street view pic of a Super 8. Was not a big deal. We read the reviews, and some of the reviews were true. Front desk at check in, early evening, was very polite, helpful, and was very knowledgeable. First, door cards did not work at the room the first time, which the reviews said happened to them. This is a little frustrating, since you have to walk all the way back around to get it fixed. Second, had to get change from the front desk later that night for the laundry, and had to walk around to a walk up window, which the attempt to enclose was a little weird, and not professionally done, and yes, there again, bugs in the tray to pass money in to the night clerk. This also was in the reviews, and said was going to be addressed, and has not been. So now my concern was, why would the hotel close the lobby at night? I did not feel safe standing in the night window, felt like they did this because they have issues here, and then, the police came by to check in with the hotel. It's been remodeled, no reason to close it, other than protection from theft/robbery? We did not experience any problems, room was nice and big, had been 'remodeled', but carpet where it meets the tile was coming up, and furniture desperately needs replaced, but I could tell the walls and paint were recently done. Other rooms were under construction, and our room was said to be done, but I feel like they did an average clean up. I am still stuck on that night window thing, it bothers me to want to recommend this hotel to others, when the hotel itself has to use a night window to make their staff feel safe?
