This HJ's appears to be under some degree of renovation although we didn't see any going on you could smell paint and some of the exterior doors were taped off for painting as well. The room was of average to just below average size which was fine for our purpose but this entire hotel is SORELY out of date. The bathroom countertops were from the late 70's or maybe early 80's and had chips and burns on them. The sink wasn't even construction grade, the faucet was filthy and had a large hunk of "hork" hanging from it which I took a photo of while gagging. The toilet had no water in it at all when we arrived and when we flushed it, the bowl filled with pink stuff that looked like bloody tissue or maybe pink coloured vomit. Needless to say it was not nice. The water was rusty and while the sink cleared of the rust after a few minutes it was not nice to brush you teeth with and I certainly wouldn't drink it. The shower was clean but the tub bottom had 3 or 4 adhesive strips still stuck to it, I assume from an old bath mat. The shower curtain was new and clean. The shower water however was not clean. It was full of rust and stayed rusty through the duration of my shower. The grouted tile floor appeared clean but as it was also late 70's early 80's the grout probably just couldn't be kept clean and was quite black (not the original grout colour I'm sure). The room carpet was old...looked 80's ish but was clean and vacuumed. The curtains were hanging off the hooks a bit which we fixed and the curtains and bed spreads looked newer and were nice and clean/fresh. There were stains on the light fixture over the bed, part of the ceiling had been repaired very shoddily as it was a tile ceiling but rather than replacing the tile, they just mucked on a blob of plaster and didn't bother to even sand it. Clothing hooks were mounted on the bathroom door but were dollar store hooks on unfinished/bare wood. There were no electrical outlets to plug in our computers and cell phone so we had to unplug something to plug in only one of our 3 items at a time. We even pulled the beds out to see if the electrical was behind the beds but there was nothing. The television was VERY old and we thought it was broken but it was an old tube type that was worn out and took about 10 minutes and suddenly turned itself on when it had warmed up. There was a good selection of channels on the tv but the WiFi didn't work. Others complained of this too. « less

First of all I would like to admit that:Yes, this place is convienient. It is the only place to stay within an hour.BUT, This location was privatly owned and has reciently become a chain.As a Howard Johnson chain, you should be imbarrassed to have this location as part of your locations.The owners and staff, don't care about anything.They advertise that they have a pool and a hit tub. No one would ever use it. When they do have water in it. Its Green with slim.My first night, we went to bed and I was the first one up that morning and decided to grab the empty pop can from the night table and throw it out. I carried it to the bathroom where I proceeded to make sure that it was empty prior to tossing it. I flicked the lights on and the pop can and my hands were covered with ants. You couldn't see the color of the pop can.We ordered soup and ate it in the room, but we had to eat and run. We were gone for about an hour and a half. By the time we had returned. The ants had gotten to the crackers and climbed in the bag.If you use the water to wet your toothbrush, when you put it in your mouth, you can feel it bubble. There is so much clorine in the water. If you were to pour a glass of water it looks milky and bubbles like you just dropped eno in the glass. We had to buy bottled water.The toilet water looses pressure, so some times there is not enough water to flush.The beds, when we arrived you could see that the bed frmae had been broken on one corner. The bed was lopsided.I needed to conduct business while I was there and had requested the password for the internet. I was told that it was down. I asked when it might be available. He said, he didn;t know. We were there for more than a week without internet.No one should eat at the restaurant! We ate accross the street at the truck stop. Every time we try to eat there someone gets sick.Overall, The price of the rooms are reasonable but not for what you get and have to put up with. I have traveled to this area 4-5 times a year and We will not be staying there again. I will make the hour long drive to stay somewhere else. « less
