The hallway already had a terrible odor to it. When I opened the door to our room, #123, the smell almost knocked me over. Someone had already placed an air freshner on the ac unit, but that didn't help at all. The back door/window to the pool was left unlocked. Because we were on the bottom floor I could not open the window. We arrived late at night to a sleeping desk clerk. Told him that I was only staying one instead of the two nights, and he mumbled something, that it would be taken care of. The room itself was clean, but the smell in the room was unbearable. I even checked under the beds for a dead body. I did not sleep the remainder of the night because of the smell. It seems a lot of the mold on the walls had been painted over, so I believe some of the smell was from that. But I have travelled the world privately and as a flight attendant, and have NEVER smelled a room like this! I was so tired to go complain that night. But I did check out that morning and left after the military graduation that I had come to see. When checking out, breakfast was a joke. The juice machine was inoperable. I went to the desk to turn in my key and told the two men behind the desk that I was checking out early, just in case the night manager had not made note of it. I was worried that I would be charged for both nights, but they said that it would be taken care. I also complained about the odor but was too tired to take it any further that day. They said it would be forwarded to the manager. But with that smell, I doubt that it just happened. I ended up making the 5 hour trip home with no sleep and disgusted at Howard Johnson. Now, I check my bank statement, and have also been charged for the two days!!! After all the attempts at telling them that I was only staying the one night. I even had called the hotel twice prior to my arrival to tell them of the change and they said that it would be no problem, that it would be taken care of at check out. Now, the manager claims that I stayed the two nights and have been charged that. What else am I to do?????? PS. The standing lamp was broken and the tv didn't carry all of the channels listed. « less

“horrible stay”

Free WiFi didn't work. Horrible smell in the entire place. Bad service. I can go on. They should knock the place down and rebuild. more »
