“Revisit using a voucher due to previous poor experience”

Was once again disappointed in our stay at this Howard Johnson. First I had a voucher due to a prior poor experience. When I called to book this stay, I called the hotel and they immediately transferred me to an 800#. I explained to the 800# that I wanted to book with the hotel directly due to the voucher and prior experience. They assured me they could handle my request. When we arrived at the hotel, with our grandchildren, we were told they would NOT accept our voucher, because I did not mention it when I booked our stay and it requires approval by the facility in advance. I provided the hotel with the above information,but they denied the voucher. I left my credit card for the stay, asked for the customer service number and went next door for dinner. After ordering our dinner, I left my husband with our grandchildren and went outside to call the customer care line. (800) 851-1223. I spoke with Shane on this line, he advised the had to honor the voucher. Shane was able to verify my voucher, he contacted the motel and assured me they would now accept the voucher and to go back to the hotel office. After dinner I finished my dinner, I left my husband and grandchildren to settle the bill and walked back over to the hotel. I had to wait in line and then they did honor my voucher. The voucher was for $45. and the room cost was 40.49, including taxes. I did not receive any credit for the additional amount. The hotel appeared to be very old and dingy. I definitely would not have stayed here if it was for more than one night. The door to the room would not close correctly and you had to push it hard to verify it closed. There was an opening around the door and around 10 PM some pizza place came by and slid a menu through the side of the door. The carpet felt thick and sticky. The free breakfast was dried out bagels, froot loops, corn flakes and oranges. This was NOT a good place to stay, I would never recommend.
