I stayed in this hotel because it was a cheap deal, and my partner and I would only be there to shower and sleep. It met my expectations for the price I paid for, in some places a little less. The blankets didn't seem the cleanest; there were some small visible stains on the sheets, but it didn't affect how tired I was to sleep in them. The blanket between the sheet and duvet seemed to not have been replaced in a while -- there were some holes and definite age. The cleanliness of the overall room seemed fine, if not aged as well. Again, I expected a little dinginess for the price I paid. Considering we stayed for one night, this was a dream after driving and being active since 6am that day. However, the biggest qualm I will raise is that there was a large spider. Right before going out again, I picked up my bag and then noticed a large, brown-black spider crawling on it. I can't remember if it even touched me, but I immediately threw down my bag and my partner killed it. We should have thoroughly identified it of course, but we were reacting on instinct. It was definitely larger than any garden spider I would see in the Pacific Northwest, approximately ~2" or so (I'm not sure what is considered large in Texas, but it was the biggest I'd seen outside a zoo). My boyfriend insisted it was a brown recluse, but alas, we were not sure and had no way to know anymore. Hours after, I noticed a swelling red mark on my pinky finger. I can't link the two events together, but for a while I was worried I would have to make a trip to the emergency room to treat a venemous spider bite. Fortunately, I didn't have to after the swelling subsided from a benadryl. It's been a few days, and the mark has been going through the stages of healing. Whatever bit me meant business.I can't place total responsiblity on HJ for this. All I would ask is a thorough pest inspection of the hotel, just so other occupants don't have to go through the anxiety I went through.
