“Biggest Crack Hotel in Barrie”

  , Halifax
I rolled into the hotel expecting a "high-end motel" experience. Really just looking for a conveniently located, clean location, with moderate service. What I got was far less than that. The manager was abrupt at best, the room was dingy, obviously old and not well maintained as rust was evident on the heaters, the toilet seat was broken, and there was no hot water in the shower. The windows had been covered by using some off-the-shelf stick on materials, which had been sloppily applied. The 'free continental breakfast' the next morning was a dismal failure, and I wouldn't even touch it. It was served up on a dirty counter in the hotel lobby, and looked sketchy at best. As I pulled out of the hotel onto Dunlop Street, a police car immediately pulled up behind me and brought me to the side of the road. The abbreviated conversation with the officer went like this:Cop: Are you staying here?Me: No, just getting the hell out and heading back to ....Cop: Good call. This is the biggest crack hotel in Barrie.I called into the 1800 customer service number to file my complaint, and to HoJos credit the system worked, and within about 15 mins the manager of the hotel called my cell. I chose not to take the call and listened to the msg. The manager was again abrupt, defensive and accusatory, suggesting none of my complaints were valid as I never brought them to his attention - which was true enough. I have absolutely no intention of dealing with a manager who no doubt has full knowledge (or at the least well informed) of the type of clients who are frequenting his hotel and showed no inclination towards remote interest in looking out for my interests (as I was clearly not the typical guest) by choosing to suggest I should stay elsewhere (which is a totally acceptable thing to suggest if I'm not the type of person who typically frequents "the biggest crack hotel in Barrie".
