We were on our way home from South Carolina and decided to stay in Beckley to rest before continuing our journey home. I will start off by saying that we always stay at The Hampton Inn (Hilton line of hotels) but unfortunately there wasnt a room available for the one in Beckley. This hotel was the one of the only one with occupancy so we decided to try (having never stayed at a Howard Johnson before). From the outside the hotel looked ok but upon entering the lobby was a bit run down and the attendants were both smoking which made for an unpleasant first impression. Since it was only 2 floors there were no elevators (so watch out if you have heavy bags!).The hallways were a bit rundown as well but when you entered your room at least they were in good condition. Beds were comfortable but they skimped out on the covers. Pillows were not that comfortable. The breakfast bar/area was small, carpets were a bit of a mess and the variety of the "continental breakfast" was mediocre at best.I hate to give a review like this but having just come from a Hampton Inn that I paid 30 dollars more for the night and also being already spoiled with all the comforts and ammenities that the Hilton brand brings, the bar is set quite high and I do expect more.If you and passing by and want a decent clean room to sleep for the night this place will do but thats about it.
